Where Are You Going?
Creating your marketing plan starts with knowing where you are and where you want to go.
I’ve found the easiest way to create that map is to start with a Marketing Clarity Statement.
To create yours, start by answering some key questions.
Are we on track with our long-term goals? What do you need to do in the coming year to keep moving forward towards those goals? Defining “long term” as 3 to 5 years seems to work best for this exercise.
Are we focusing on doing our very Best Work? Work that gives you the greatest joy while simultaneously providing the biggest value to the marketplace?
Are we working with the Right People? Review the characteristics of the type of people who fuel and inspire you vs. those who bring you down. What are the characteristics of the people you DO NOT want to attract?
What are our monthly income goals? What do you need to make every month to reach your personal and financial goals?
How much do we need to sell? Calculate the average price per client (or sale) and the number of clients (or sales) you need to meet your monthly income goal.
Now, put it all together Mad Libs style - like this:
One year from now, I will earn [Prime Monthly Goal] per month by [VERY BEST WORK] with/for/to [THREE “GOOD PEOPLE” CRITERIA].
I will attract [Number of clients needed].
I will under no circumstances [WORK/PEOPLE to AVOID], and I will have reduced, delegated, and possibly eliminated [ONE STRIKE ACTIVITIES].
Once you have this Marketing Clarity Statement complete, you’ll find it much easier to determine where to focus your attention to reach your goals.
